Bio
Lt Col John D. Cacic is the Commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 250 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa—home of the “Cyclones.” As the Department Chair and Professor of Aerospace Studies, he leads a professional cadre of officers and noncommissioned officers and oversees cadet training across three crosstown universities. He is responsible for executing a comprehensive college-level program focused on recruiting, training, evaluating, and preparing officer candidates for commissioning into the United States Air and Space Forces.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Lt Col Cacic earned his commission through AFROTC Detachment 250 and graduated from Iowa State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science from the Ivy College of Business. Over his 17-year career, he has served in a variety of acquisition program management roles and career-broadening assignments, including positions as an Executive Officer, Director of Operations, and Senior Instructor. He has completed two tours as a Field Training Officer (FTO), where he was instrumental in graduating over 1,375 cadets into the Professional Officer Course (POC). He also holds the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) “Master Instructor” certification, having delivered over 2,000 hours of instruction.
Prior to his current assignment, Lt Col Cacic served as the Deputy Branch Chief within the Airspace Mission Planning Division, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. In that role, he led a multidisciplinary team of over 50 personnel and managed a $300 million portfolio of agile software programs supporting aircraft operations, mission planning, and integration with Command and Control systems and the Department of the Air Force Battle Network.
